Very relevant article for modern day for the “faster” obsession. Maybe we can get an AI assistance so we can devote more time to youtube etc..

Once had a boss who requested reporting at 20:00 on a Monday evening as urgent, and when i delivered it on Tuesday morning as requested i was informed that it was only needed for a meeting on Friday so no urgent need to go through the results.

A total misunderstanding by management of what it takes to produce overnight requests is a major cause of burnout or just a “ i could no longer be bothered” syndrome.

"or just a “ i could no longer be bothered” syndrome" - very much so - a good example of a potential symptom of 'proto-burnout', much as I described in the post. Also closely-related is 'presenteeism', where someone is physically present at the office or whatever, but not engaged in the work.

Both of those two symptoms are frighteningly common in business and elsewhere, accounting for huge inefficiencies and probably even huger losses. And they're caused, as you say, by managers and the like not realising or recognising just how much damage they're causing by messing people around with stupid orders and stupid demands and not allowing the kind of proper recovery-time needed to avoid burnout. Not A Good Idea...
