Hi Tom,

Some companions will walk the path with you, others may walk another but as long as we all understand the required destination, we can enjoy the trip and have many stories to tell.

Very good point about "others may walk another": there's no certainty that companions will always stay together on the same path. (To put a somewhat bleak perspective on it, it's literally inevitable that at some point they not only won't but can't...) Paths may be different, but where and whilst they intersect, there's some possibility of companionship there.

And yes, you're right, of course: I've careered so much, in so many different senses, throughout my life, that my companions and companion-connections have changed a lot over time. To echo the bleak point above, a significant number are no longer with us at all, though can still be sort-of companions in terms of previous experiences shared with them.

The main point in this, perhaps, is that the companions we need most at any moment are those who _are_ with us at that moment. It usually does take time to build a companion-type relationship, though - as we know in our own case, of course, supporting each other from near-opposite sides of the globe.
