Many employment contracts now contain intellectual property clauses which in many cases stifles innovative thought within the company, why would an individual utilise his / her grey matter to introduce a concept which only benefits senior management and shareholders, when they can leave start their own company and claim full IP rights for themselves. Seems counter productive to keep this archaic nonsense around if we are to build a sustainable future.

Would we see mobile phone operators as IP thieves when the original IP would have been reliant on Mr Alexander Graham Bell as the thought leader for communication devices?

Many thanks as always on this, Robert. You're absolutely right, of course - it's the exact same parasitism that we see everywhere throughout the possession-economy, the huge disincentives to engage in the society as a whole. Even more, though, my real aim was to use this as yet another illustration of why we _must_ dismantle the possession-economy, before it destroys us all.

Agree Tom, but the point being that the possession-economy is underpinned by such laws and regulations, each small change brings us closer to disarming the parasites who use such regulation with ease. The "borg" mentality of global consultancies ensures sufficient IP is disseminated across the collective with no regard to laid down regulation or contractual obligations.

Again, agreed. I suspect that the trick is going to be to find ways to turn the laws around 'intellectual property' on their head - such as how Creative Commons and other variants such as 'copyleft' use the law to make it illegal to turn ideas and information into 'private property'. There's also tactics such as those used by Philips, where they used copyright and patent to protect the formal standards for the tape-cassette and the CD, making it a breach of copyright and patent for anyone to attempt to put copy-protection onto either media.

It will take better people than me to work out how to do the fine-detail for the required tweaks in law - but we can at least both place the suggestion that it should be possible, and show examples of how it has already been done in some cases such as those above.
